The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures presents the following awards and prizes to its students.
Graduation prizes
Prizes in French Studies
- James Robert Inch Memorial Prize (monetary award): A prize awarded to the graduating student with the highest overall average in French Studies
- Prix de l'Ambassadrice de France, remis par le Consul général de France (book prize): Awarded to an outstanding student in French Studies
- Prize of the Consul General of Switzerland in Montréal (book prize): Awarded to the graduating student with the highest average in their Senior Year in French Studies
- Prize of Bureau du Québec dans les provinces atlantiques (book prize): Awarded to a graduating student with an outstanding record in courses in Québec literature
- Prize of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures: Awarded to a graduating student for outstanding achievement in French Studies
Prizes in German Studies
- Prize of the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany (book prize): Awarded for overall high achievement in German
- Prize of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures: Awarded to a student with outstanding achievement in German
- Prize of the Consul General of Switzerland in Montréal (book prize): Awarded to an outstanding student in German
Prizes in Hispanic Studies
- Prize of the Ambassador of Spain (book prize): Awarded to the graduating student with the highest overall average in Hispanic Studies
- The Weiss-Buenaventura Prize of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures: Awarded to a graduating student who has demonstrated a commitment to learning the language and contributions to university life
Prizes in Japanese Studies
- Prize of the Consul General of Japan in Montreal (book prize): Awarded to an outstanding graduating student in Japanese language studies
- Prize of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures: Awarded to a graduating student for outstanding achievement in Japanese Studies
Prizes in Linguistics
- Prize of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures: Awarded for outstanding achievement in Linguistics
Prizes in Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures
- Prize of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures: Awarded to an outstanding student majoring in Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures
Undergraduate prizes
Prizes in French Studies
- James Robert Inch Memorial Prize (monetary award): Awarded to undergraduate students for excellence in French during their second year of study, and to undergraduate students who have declared a French major for excellence in French during their third year of study
Prizes in German Studies
- Prize of the Austrian Ambassador (book award): Awarded to an undergraduate student for excellence in German Studies
Entrance scholarships
Jean and Francis Chubb Scholarships
The Jean and Francis Chubb Scholarships are awarded to entering students who have indicated that they wish to pursue a BA major/honours in French, or BA major/honours in Modern Languages, Literatures & Culture in French. Please see the University's scholarships page for more information.
