Internet

High-speed wireless internet is available on our entire campus, and an Ethernet jack is provided in each residence room.

To log into WIFI:

  • connect to MTA-HISPEED or MTA-WPA
  • use your MtA username and password to log in

DeviceNet

For gaming consoles, wireless printers, and streaming media devices

Connecting your device to DeviceNet allows you to connect to your device wirelessly and not interfere with the residence network.

Once you've registered your device (such as XBox, Playstation, Nintendo, Chromecast, Apple TV, and Roku) with DeviceNet, you'll be able to connect your device to a new WIFI network called DeviceNet.

DeviceNet uses a PreShared Key, like your home network and is not meant for laptops, tablets, or mobile phones, except when connecting to those devices.

DeviceNet is only available in residence.

How to use DeviceNet

1) Find the MAC address of your device

In order to use DeviceNet you need to register the media access control (MAC) address of your device. The MAC address is a unique identifier assigned to a network device.

It can often be found on the bottom or back of the device and is formatted in six groups of two hexadecimal digits. The address may be formatted like aa:bb:cc:11:22:33 or aa-bb-cc-11-22-33.

You may also find the MAC address in the settings for the device.

How to find a MAC address by device

XBox 360

  1. Select System
  2. Select Network Settings
  3. Select Wired Network
  4. Select Configure Network
  5. Select the Additional Settings tab on the upper right-hand side
  6. Highlight Advanced Settings
  7. Select Advanced Settings

XBox One

  1. Press the "Menu" button on your controller.
  2. Navigate to the Settings page.
  3. Select Network
  4. Select Advanced Settings
  5. MAC address will be listed next to Wired MAC on the right hand side of the screen.

Playstation 3

  1. Go to "Settings" on the Cross Media Bar (XMB) and select "System Settings."
  2. Scroll down and select "System Information."
  3. Your MAC Address will be the first item listed.

Playstation 4

  1. Turn on your Playstation 4 without any disk in the drive and wait for the menu to pop up.
  2. Navigate to the "Settings" icon (located on the far left).
  3. Select the "System" icon under the Settings menu.
  4. Select “System Information."
  5. You will see your MAC address listed on this screen, containing letters and numbers in the format xx.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx. Write down your MAC address (WiFi).

Nintendo Switch

  1. Select System Settings from the HOME Menu.
  2. Scroll down through the menu and select internet.
  3. The Nintendo Switch console’s MAC address will be listed under System MAC Address.

Nintendo Wii

  1. From the Wii Channel menu, select "Wii Settings"
  2. Select "Internet," then "Console Settings."
  3. The MAC address of the Wii console is displayed on the first line

Nintendo WiiU

  1. From the Wii U Menu, select "System Settings."
  2. Select the "Internet" icon
  3. Select "View MAC Address" and wait a moment for the MAC address to be displayed.

Nintendo 3DS

  1. Go into System Settings.
  2. Select Internet Settings
  3. 3. Select Other Information. 4. Select Confirm MAC Address.

Chromecast

  1. Install the Google cast extension in your Chrome browser on a PC, Mac or Chromebook.
  2. Click on the cast icon in the browser bar.
  3. Select Options.
  4. Select your Chromecast.
  5. Click Edit.
  6. Look in the bottom left-hand corner. You'll see your MAC address.

Apple TV

  1. Go to the main menu on your Apple TV, and select Settings.
  2. In the Settings Menu, select About.
  3. The Apple TV's MAC Address will be listed as either the Wireless ID or Ethernet ID (depending on the connection you are using).

Roku

  1. From the Roku home screen, select Settings, and then About. The MAC address will appear on your screen.
  2. Alternatively, you can find the MAC address on the bottom or back of your Roku.

2) Register your device on DeviceNet

To register your device, go to devicenet.mta.ca/login. You'll need to login with your MtA username and password.

  • Once on the site, click on "Register a Device"
  • On the registration screen, enter a name for your device, e.g. Your Name HP Office Jet
  • Enter the MAC address of your device
  • Choose the device type from the list
  • Check the box to indicate that you agree to the terms and conditions and then click submit

3) Connect your device to DeviceNet

Once you've registered your device, you can connect your device to a new WIFI network called DeviceNet.

The password (also called a pre-shared key) for this network is 'ConnectMyDevice'
