On-campus health services
A number of health services are available on campus through the Wellness Centre.
The Wellness Centre is located on the lower level of the Wallace McCain Student Centre.
All services are strictly confidential. Medical information can only be released with your written authorization.

Services at the Wellness Centre include:
- general health assessments
- flu shots
- immunizations/vaccine advice
- prescriptions
- sexual health testing and treatments
- well women clinics

Health insurance covers the cost of many of the health and wellness services offered at Mount Allison.

Registered Nurse/Educator
The registered nurse/educator facilitates and delivers primary health care services at the Wellness Centre.
All students who makes a health appointment will first see the registered nurse/educator for a nursing assessment.

About the nurse/educator
The nurse/educator provides:
- health counselling
- clinical services
- testing
- referrals when appropriate
- health promotion initiatives
- health education (including knowledge of current health issues)
In order to promote and enhance students’ good health and well being, the nurse/educator co-ordinates health care services of Mount Allison students by triaging their individual needs.
All health referrals will be made through the nurse/educator in order to promote healthy living through a caring and supportive environment, in accordance with the standards of professional practice.

Physician
Appointments with a family physician are available for students who have previously been seen by the registered nurse/educator, which includes having a completed health file with a health history and baseline vital signs.

Gender affirming clinic
The Gender Affirming Clinic offers care across the spectrum, whether an individual is just beginning or looking to continue therapy with a physician.
Referrals are no longer required. Referrals are still welcome from any health care professional, including mental health professionals.
About the Gender Affirming Clinic
Mount Allison’s Gender Affirming Care Clinic on campus has extended its services to the wider region.
Now, any resident of New Brunswick or those with other provincial health coverage seeking gender affirming care can be referred to the University’s Wellness Centre to book an appointment with physician Dr. Sara Thomas.
The clinic offers care across the spectrum, whether an individual is just beginning or looking to continue therapy.
Services include:
- initiating and maintaining Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)
- referrals
- assisting with gathering letters of approval for gender-reaffirming surgery
- and more
Referrals no longer required
Referrals are no longer required. Referrals are still welcome from any healthcare professional, including mental health professionals.

The clinic is located on the ground floor of the Wallace McCain Student Centre (West Wing).
Appointments are available Monday afternoons throughout the fall term.

Fee-for-service appointments at the Wellness Centre
Mount Allison also has partnerships with several external providers offering fee-for-service appointments at the Wellness Centre. Some fees may be covered by the Mount Allison Students' Union insurance plan.
