Nomination procedure — for home university

In order to nominate students, a nomination for exchange or study abroad form must be completed by the Study Abroad Advisor or Exchange Administrator from the university co-ordinating the exchange student application process to Mount Allison University.

Nominations should be received by April 15 for the fall term and September 15 for the winter term.

Course restrictions

None. Please note we do not offer Master's level courses for exchange students. Exchange students can take any upper year undergraduate courses at Mount Allison provided they have the appropriate pre-requisites from their home university and they are listed on their transcript that they submit with their exchange application.  

Credits and course information

• Minimum full-time course load: 9 credits per semester (3 courses @ 3 credits each)
• Maximum full-time course load: 15 credits per semester (5 courses @ 3 credits each)

Note: almost all courses at Mount Allison University are 3-credits each.  This means that there are 3 hours of contact time per week for 13 weeks (36 hours overall). 

Please note: Exchange students should plan to take a minimum of three courses per term and a maximum of five courses. Most Mount Allison students take five courses per term. Exchange students are encouraged to speak to their home university to find out how many courses/credits they should be registered in while on exchange in order to fulfill home university requirements.

Additional course information

Exchange students can take courses in a variety of programs or subjects while at Mount Allison. They are not limited to one faculty or program. Students can mix and match courses based on their interests; however, students must have appropriate pre-requisites. This means that students must have taken a similar course at their home university. All Bachelor’s degrees at Mount Allison are four-year programs and students typically declare a major and a minor after their second year. Typically, first year courses at Mount Allison start with the number 1, second year courses start with the number 2, third year courses start with a 3 and fourth year courses start with a 4.

Academic calendar and finding available courses

The Academic Calendar is available online; however, not all courses that are in the Academic Calendar will be offered each year, therefore it is advisable for exchange students to review the PDF copy of current course offerings that has been sent to their home university's International Office.  

Course registration

Exchange students will be asked to submit their course request list after they have received acceptance to Mount Allison University as an exchange student.   They will receive access to Self-Service after they receive their acceptance as they will receive a username and password once they are admitted as an exchange student.
They will only be registered in courses once they have received an offer letter and after they have paid their registration deposit. Exchange students who will come for the fall term will be registered in courses in July and students who will come for the winter term will be registered in November/December.
Please note: exchange students can not register for courses by themselves on CONNECT@MTA.  Ms. Robin Walker will assist students with the course registration process and will contact students once they have paid their deposit to confirm their course list and what courses they wish to register for.

Approximate cost of exchange for one term based on 2022-23 fees

Fee payment

After they receive their offer letter, exchange students should pay (through Flywire):

• $250 registration deposit
• $250 housing deposit for one term OR $500 housing deposit for the full year

Students will then pay the remainder of their student fees owing (housing, meal plan, and student fees) approximately two weeks after the term begins.

Accommodations

On-campus residence rooms are available for exchange students. Once exchange students have paid the registration and housing deposits they can complete the residence application.  The Housing Office will notify you of your room assignment.  

Arrival

Airport pick-up service from the Moncton International Airport is complimentary when students register for International Orientation for the fall or winter term.
