Important Notice: Canada Post service strike and year-end donation dates

Due to the recent labour action at Canada Post, donations made via mail may not be processed or delivered before Dec. 31, 2024. Canada Revenue Agency considers the date of donation of items received by mail to be the date of the postmark on the envelope.  Given the recent labour action, donations by mail risk not receiving a postmark date in 2024. Therefore, the official donation receipt will be in 2025, making your 2024 tax return ineligible.

Therefore, we encourage donors to consider giving online for immediate receipt or by phone at 1-866-890-6318 between 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.*

*Mount Allison will be closed for the holidays from Dec. 23 - Jan. 2 inclusive

By choosing to support Mount Allison University you will be making a real difference in the lives of students.

It is also important that your gift reflects your own specific needs and circumstances. And don't forget, many gifts to Mount Allison generate substantial tax benefits!

Match your gift

Many companies encourage their employees, past and present, to support higher education. Through matching gift programs, companies will match employee gifts to an eligible educational institution, in some cases doubling or tripling the original contributions.

Check with your human resources department, or use the search box below, to determine matching gift guidelines for your company.

In most cases companies require a form to be filled out by the employee to accompany their gift. Upon receipt of your donation, Mount Allison will complete the form and return it to your company. If the donation qualifies, a matching gift is mailed to Mount Allison and the match is applied to the same area as designated by your original donation.

If you have any questions regarding matching gifts, please contact the Development Office at donate@mta.ca or (506) 364-2343.

Make a payroll deduction (faculty and staff)

The faculty and staff of Mount Allison are able to make bi-weekly donations via payroll deduction and direct these gifts to any project, program, or initiative on campus.

Alumni and family in the U.S.

Under the Canada-United States Income Tax Convention, U.S. citizens are entitled to a charitable deduction for gifts made during their lifetime, provided they or a member of their family (spouse, children, grandchildren, parents, or siblings) are, or have been, enrolled at the University. Give online.

A charitable bequest lets you reduce estate taxes and there is no ceiling on the amount of the donation. The Tax Convention allows an estate tax charitable deduction for a bequest to any institution in Canada that, if situated in the United States, would qualify for such a deduction.

If you have any questions, please contact the Development Office at donate@mta.ca or 1-866-890-6318.
