Mount Allison University, Bermuda College sign new pathways agreement
Partnership will provide options for students at both schools as early as September 2019
Paget, Bermuda and Sackville, NB — Bermuda College’s long-time connection with Mount Allison University continues with the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
The MOU will open pathways for credit transfers between the two institutions, enabling students in Sciences to earn credentials at both schools. Students who complete the two-year Associate of Science (AS) degree at Bermuda College can now be admitted to Mount Allison’s Bachelor of Science program in psychology, biology, mathematics, environmental science, or chemistry with third-year standing starting in September 2019. This new partnership will enable Bermuda’s students to earn both an associate and undergraduate degree in the Sciences, in just four years, and with considerable savings from the 2 + 2 pathways partnership.
“Mount Allison and Bermuda have a special history together. We’ve welcomed students from the Island for more than 150 years and have a strong alumni base there,” says Kim Meade, Mount Allison’s Vice-President, International and Student Affairs. “We are delighted to work with Bermuda College and look forward to welcoming new Bermudian students to campus through this pathways agreement as they complete their Science degrees.”
Dr. Phyllis Curtis-Tweed, Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs echoed the sentiments, stating, “The relationship between Bermuda and Mount Allison constitutes a legacy that should be expanded and extended to current students at Bermuda College. I look forward to connecting our graduates with baccalaureate programs at Mount Allison through our articulation agreements.”
The connection between the two institutions is historic. There are currently 15 Bermudian students at Mount Allison and the University recently celebrated the 150th anniversary of its first Bermudian graduate and international student, Samuel Seward Toddings, who earned his BA in 1866. The University is also home to the Bermuda House residence, named in celebration of students from Bermuda, and the Bermuda Wing of its Student Centre, which showcases the art of Bermudian graduates.
