Mount Allison marks National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

23 Sep 2025
University to be closed for day of reflection, Tuesday, Sept. 30

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is a day of memorial for the Indigenous children who never returned home, as well as the survivors of residential schools, their families, and communities. This day aims to raise awareness around this history, the ongoing impacts and intergenerational trauma and our responsibilities to truth and reconciliation.

Please join us outside the Owens Art Gallery on Monday, Sept. 29 at 12 p.m. as we raise the Every Child Matters flag on campus.

The University will be closed on Tuesday, Sept. 30, for a day of reflection. University offices will be closed and no classes or events will be held.

Beginning in October, University community members are invited to join Settlers Taking Action for Reconciliation. We will explore issues around colonialism and how we, as settlers, can learn from and build respectful relationships with Indigenous communities, with a focus on reconciliation. More details will be shared in the coming weeks.

For additional resources and to learn about Canada’s Residential School System and continue on the path towards reconciliation, students, faculty, and staff can visit MtA Gateway and review the Truth and Reconciliation section on the Training and Professional Development page. Sign in to MtA Gateway using your MtA email address and password.
