As English is the primary language of instruction at Mount Allison, students must possess a mastery of English sufficient to communicate effectively, follow lectures, and write assignments and examinations in English.
If asked, you must provide proof of one of the following:

High school (secondary) studies in English
Successful completion of at least three years of academic instruction at a Canadian secondary institution, as recognized by Mount Allison.
Post-secondary studies in English
Successful completion of at least 30 credit hours (or equivalent) at a post-secondary institution where English is the primary language of instruction, as recognized by Mount Allison.
Approved English language programs
If you meet Mount Allison's academic requirements, but don't meet our English proficiency requirements, you may be offered conditional admission.
If you're offered conditional admission, you can enroll in Mount Allison's English pathway program designed for students who need extra time and training to meet our English proficiency requirements, and who would like to benefit from additional transition time and academic preparation before full-time study.

A language, academic, and cultural immersion program offered online during both the summer and fall.
Once you successfully complete Mount Allison's English language program, you will get unconditional admission to Mount Allison (if you meet our academic requirements). No additional TOEFL or IELTS tests will be required.

You can also continue your English studies independently to raise your IELTS/TOEFL score and submit your improved results to our admission office for consideration at admissions@mta.ca
If you meet Mount Allison's academic requirements, but can't provide proof of English proficiency, you may be offered conditional admission.
Please note: meeting the minimum English proficiency requirements does not guarantee admission to Mount Allison.
