Rambo Nyirimihigo joins Mount Allison as Director of Student Equity and Community Development
Rambo Nyirimihigo joins Mount Allison University as Director of Student Equity and Community Development, bringing more than a decade of leadership experience in post-secondary education, government, and the non-profit sector, with a strong background in student engagement, community development, and organizational leadership. Nyirimihigo’s appointment will begin on August 1, 2026.

I look forward to listening, learning, and contributing to Mount Allison University's exceptional student experience."
This newly created position reflects Mount Allison's commitment to fostering student belonging, equity, and meaningful community engagement. The Director of Student Equity and Community Development will provide leadership in initiatives that support student success and address student conduct through preventive, equitable, and reparative approaches, strengthen connections across campus, and help cultivate an inclusive and welcoming environment for all students.

Nyirimihigo’s commitment to student advocacy and leadership began during his undergraduate studies at the University of Lethbridge, where he served as President of the International Students' Association and later as Vice-President Academic of the Students' Union. These experiences sparked a lifelong passion for supporting student development, fostering a sense of belonging, and ensuring that student voices are meaningfully represented in institutional decision-making.
Prior to joining Mount Allison, Nyirimihigo served as Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Advisor at Red Deer Polytechnic, where he led the development and implementation of the institution's five-year Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy. His work focused on building institutional capacity, strengthening community engagement, and advancing policies and practices that promote equity, belonging, and accessibility.
Nyirimihigo is currently pursuing a Doctor of Education in Equity, Diversity, Social Justice, and Human Rights at Western University. He holds a Master of Arts in Applied Human Rights and Peacebuilding, a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, and is a Certified Canadian Inclusion Professional (CCIP).
With extensive international experience across Africa, Asia, and North America, Nyirimihigo brings a global perspective to his work. Having lived, studied, and worked across Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America, he has developed a collaborative and relationship-centred approach to leadership, community engagement, policy development, and organizational change.
Informed by both professional expertise and lived experiences navigating diverse cultural, educational, and social contexts, he is committed to fostering inclusive communities, strengthening cross-cultural understanding, and creating meaningful opportunities for engagement and belonging.
