Day programs available for children ages 5-17, overnight programs for high school students

MtASummer_CampsSACKVILLE, NB — Mount Allison University is offering an extensive line-up of summer camps this year for children ages 5-17. Overseen by Mount Allison faculty and staff members with senior University students working as camp counselors, programs are being offered in a number of areas including music, sports, artistic and cultural activities, as well as academic-centred programs for older students.

“We’re pleased to offer a variety of day and overnight camps for young students again this year,” says Mount Allison’s manager of ancillary operations and summer camps Andy Hebert. “There is something for everyone with our Music Academy, Go Global program and the extensive Adventures and Discovery day camp offerings.”

Programs include:

Summer Academy of Music
A week-long intensive program for dedicated pianists, singers, and woodwind and brass instrumentalists, ages 14 to 22. Campers receive individual lessons with Mount Allison faculty, play chamber music and art song, brush up on theory and aural skills, and perform in public concerts.

Go Global Canada
A two, three, or four week university experience for middle and high school students currently studying outside Canada. This program focuses on putting students in an active learning environment and provides a unique opportunity to learn Canadian Studies, International Relations, or ESL programs in a university setting. Day trips to Prince Edward Island, nearby towns, and historical sites are also part of the program.

Adventures / Discovery
Adventures Summer Day Camps offer a variety of one-week programs for children from ages 5 - 9. Campers are grouped according to grade level and they stay together as a group all day. All the camps are activity-filled, enriching programs that offer children everything from art, sports to creative science activities. There are eight different camps to choose from.

Discovery camps, for ages 10-13, will follow a similar curriculum as Adventures but the activities will be more advanced and programs will be housed in separate locations.

Sports Skills Camp
In partnership with the department of Athletics and Recreation, Mount Allison varsity athletes and coaches will oversee these day programs. Sports skills camps are being offered in basketball for girls, ages 8-17. A tennis program for all ages will also run Monday to Friday for eight weeks in July and August.

Day camps are available with or without lunch. For more information and to register visit mta.ca/summer or call the Summer Camps office: 506-364-2144
