Board of Regents Update

08 Mar 2023

Earlier today on Wednesday, March, 8, Mount Allison Chair of the Board of Regents, George L. Cooper, sent the following message to the Mount Allison community.

Today, President Jean-Paul Boudreau announced that he will not be undertaking a second term as President and Vice-Chancellor of Mount Allison University.

On behalf of the Board of Regents, I would like to thank President Boudreau for his leadership over the past five years, and for his work advancing the university’s academic mission and strengthening our impact in the community, across the province, and beyond.

In 2019, Dr. Boudreau played a central role in establishing Mount Allison’s strategic roadmap, in consultation with the university community. This ambitious 4-pillar framework—focused on academic program innovation, extraordinary student experiences, a learning environment for the 21st century, and a leading community-minded university—has generated excellent results across all four areas and will help guide the work of the university for the next several years. Inspired to advance the institution’s core mission, his energetic passion and steadfast dedication leaves an indelible legacy that will benefit all.

Dr. Boudreau, our “Pandemic President”, worked with administration, faculty, and staff to make sure the university was positioned to respond to the challenges of the pandemic. This required agility, compassion, and a focus on bringing the community together at a time when we had to be apart. As we moved forward, he continued to focus on creating a strong community, with our students at the heart of this approach.

His service to the life and well-being of the university and to our many collaborating partners is a great point of pride. In everything that he did in the role, he embodied an infectious spirit that put people first and always stood on values of care and compassion for our community.

President Boudreau looks forward to completing his term to June 30th, 2023. This will give the Board time to plan for a Presidential Search. This process will include opportunities for input from a wide range of stakeholders from the Mount Allison community. I look forward to keeping you updated.

Again, we thank Dr. Boudreau for being an enthusiastic champion for Mount Allison, and for his contributions. We wish him the best in his next chapter.
