Position description

The Indigenous Studies program at Mount Allison University invites applications for a part-time position in the Spring 2026 semester. The Spring semester runs from May 4 to June 19, 2026. Salary will be calculated on a per-student basis, and an additional course creation fee to facilitate setting up and developing materials for the class.

The successful candidate will teach an online, synchronous class called INDG 2401 Indigenous Peoples in Canada. The course meets online twice a week through Microsoft Teams for a total of five hours per week.

The course description from the Academic Calendar is: From an Indigenous perspective, this course provides an introduction to Indigenous people (First Nation, Inuit, and Métis) living within Canadian state borders. Indigenous diversity in Canada is examined through history, culture, language, geography, politics, economics, as well as the relationships between Indigenous peoples and the Settler State.

To apply, please submit a curriculum vitae, contact information for two referees, and a cover letter that includes information about teaching experience and pedagogy. Describe your proposed pedagogical approach as well as potential content for INDG 2401.

The course may be taught by an Indigenous scholar or a non-Indigenous scholar who centers Indigenous perspectives and has a demonstrated familiarity with Indigenous people, research, and ethics. While a PhD is preferred, doctoral candidates (post-comps), as well as individuals with extensive university teaching experience and course development in Indigenous Studies are encouraged to apply.

Submit the application as one pdf to the Canadian Studies administrative assistant, Brittany Jones at bjones@mta.ca. Review of applications will begin 1 March 2026.
