The Department of Philosophy at Mount Allison University invites applications for a full-time nine-month sessional position as Lecturer or Assistant Professor. Candidates should have or be near completion of a PhD in Philosophy. Candidates should also demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and a promising research profile. The teaching requirement is five undergraduate courses.  

The successful candidate will teach one undergraduate course of Introductory Philosophy, a second-year course of Introductory Ethics, a yearlong (6 credit) third-year course in Ancient Philosophy, and a third-year course on a topic of special research interest. We invite applications from all specializations of philosophy, and ideally the successful candidate will have experience teaching or research interest in Ancient Philosophy. Historically-informed approaches are preferred, in keeping with the Department’s commitment to the importance of the history of philosophy, broadly construed. 

The appointment will commence August 15, 2026, subject to budgetary approval. Applications should include: (i) a letter which includes a brief statement of teaching interests and current research, (ii) a curriculum vitae, (iii) a writing sample, and (iv) a teaching dossier which includes, but is not limited to, a brief statement of teaching philosophy and a summary of teaching experience.
