Position description

The Department of Philosophy at Mount Allison University invites applications for a full-time five month, in-person sessional position as Lecturer or Assistant Professor. Candidates should have or be near completion of a PhD in Philosophy. Candidates should also demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and a promising research profile. The teaching requirement is three undergraduate courses.
 
We invite applications from all specializations of philosophy, but the Department has a particular interest in applications from candidates who can teach second-year introductory courses in the Philosophy of Science and Introductory Logic, and a third-year course in Environmental Ethics. Where relevant, historically informed approaches are preferred in keeping with the Department’s commitment to the importance of the history of philosophy, broadly construed.

The appointment will commence August 1, 2024, subject to budgetary approval. Applications shall include: (i) a letter which includes a brief statement of teaching interests and current research, (ii) a curriculum vitae, and (iii) a teaching dossier which includes, but is not limited to, a brief statement of teaching philosophy and a summary of teaching experience. Longlisted applicants will be contacted to submit three letters of reference, official or unofficial transcripts, and a sample of writing.
