The Grace Annie Lockhart (GAL) Pin honours Mount Allison women of all ages who are shaping their communities, advancing their professions, and breaking new ground across Canada and around the world.

This recognition program commemorates the 150th anniversary of Grace Annie Lockhart's landmark achievement of becoming the first woman in the British Empire to earn a bachelor’s degree. In her spirit, the GAL Pin celebrates alumnae who carry forward her legacy of leadership, courage, and impact.

Selection committee
The GAL Pin Selection Committee was established by the Mount Allison Alumni Board and includes representation from students, faculty, the Board of Regents, Alumni Board, and University staff.
The committee will also ensure recipients reflect Mount Allison’s commitment to equity and inclusion, with recognition extended to members of 2SLGBTQ+ communities, visible minorities, Indigenous peoples, and persons with disabilities.
Selection process
- A minimum of 50 and a maximum of 150 pins will be awarded.
- GAL pin recipients will be recognized at events held in 2026.
- Posthumous recognition will be considered when appropriate.
- Nominations must be submitted through the online form or by phone at 1-866-890-6318.
Selection criteria
Nominees should demonstrate impact in at least one of the following areas:
- Trailblazer/Firsts: The first in their field or to achieve a milestone.
- Community contributions: Meaningful engagement and service in local, national, or global communities.
- Professional accomplishments: Significant achievement in career or profession.
