NB Government announces $3 million investment for multi-sport complex
The provincial government is providing $3 million to Mount Allison University to put towards construction of a multi-sport complex.
The Scott McCain and Leslie McLean Centre for Health and Wellness is expected to open in 2030 and will serve the University’s 2,400 students as well as the 14,500 residents of the Tantramar area.
“Being active makes a real difference in people’s lives - it helps you feel better, stay healthier, and be at your best,” said Jean-Claude D’Amours. “By giving students and families in Tantramar a place to stay active, we’re helping prevent illness, support mental health, and take pressure off our health-care system. This is an investment in people — and in a healthier New Brunswick.”
The fully accessible, $30-million complex will feature a playing surface of about 2,400 square metres (26,000 square feet), a walking track, multiple court configurations and multi-purpose space.
“Mount Allison is grateful for the Province of New Brunswick’s support for this important project,” said university president and vice-chancellor Ian Sutherland. “Our new multi-sport complex is an investment in the health, well-being and future of students, our university, and the broader Tantramar community. It will create a dynamic, accessible space that supports varsity and recreational athletics, strengthens community connections, and serves the region for generations to come.”
