Mounties announce Peter Fraser as new Head Football Coach
SACKVILLE, NB — Mount Allison University is pleased to announce that New Brunswick native Peter Fraser is the new Head Coach of the Mounties Football Program.
Fraser, who grew up in Oromocto, NB, comes to the Mounties with 18 years of progressive coaching experience and 11 years at the U SPORTS level. Most recently, Fraser was the Defensive Coordinator and Associate Head Coach of the University of Windsor Lancers football program.
Prior to that, he spent eight seasons with the Acadia Axemen (2009-2016) where he served in many different capacities with its program. At the time of his departure, Fraser was the Associate Head Coach of the Axemen and Special Teams coordinator, leading all recruiting efforts for the program. Fraser began his U SPORTS football coaching career as an assistant coach with the McGill Redmen (2007-2008).
“We are thrilled to introduce Coach Fraser as the next head coach of our Mounties football program,” said Mount Allison’s Director of Athletics and Recreation Pierre Arsenault. “Peter is recognized as one of the top recruiters in all of U SPORTS football. Through the selection process it became very evident to the Selection Committee that Peter embraces our values and philosophies as it relates to the ideal student athlete and possesses the necessary leadership capabilities and work ethic to build a winning and sustainable program at Mount Allison.”
“Coach Fraser’s arrival brings new energy and focus to our football program. With the support of alumni and friends of Mount Allison Athletics,” says Arsenault. “We are excited to continue with the growth of our varsity program as we embark on this new chapter.”
As a player, Fraser was an defensive lineman with the Ottawa GeeGees in 1998 and 1999 before an injury cut short his playing days. Prior to playing with Ottawa, Fraser played at the CEGEP level with John Abbott College in Montreal. Peter graduated from University of Ottawa with a B.S.S. and is a fully certified Level III NCCP football coach.
“I’m very excited and honoured to be the new head coach of the Mount Allison Mounties football program,” said Fraser. “It is a tremendous opportunity to join an excellent football program at one of Canada’s top universities. I’m looking forward to working with the players and building upon the good foundation built by Coach Brady. It's pretty special to be able to coach in the Maritimes and it’s great to be back in the AUS.”
In addition to his coaching experience at the U SPORTS level, Fraser interned in 2015 and 2016 with the CFL’s Saskatchewan Roughriders. Fraser also served as Defensive Coordinator for Team Nova Scotia at the Canada Cup in 2012, 2013 and 2015.
The Mounties won back-to-back AUS championships in 2013 and 2014. The Mounties played in the AUS Championship game (Loney Bowl) for four consecutive years from 2013-2016 before narrowly missing the playoffs in 2017 with a 4-4 record.
