The Mounties: André Goguen

29 Sep 2016

Andre_mainFourth-year Commerce student and Football Mountie André Goguen set his sights on the Mount Allison Football program since playing for Team New Brunswick. Picking up the game in Grade 8, he went on to play football in high school for École L'Odyssée in Moncton, NB and, when choosing a university, was attracted to Mount Allison’s community vibe, small class sizes, and great reputation, along with the competitive football program.

He also felt the family atmosphere of the team and the entire university right away.

“The athletics family is so close and the entire school has so much pride in Mount Allison,” he says. “Being on the team means having 100 brothers."

Goguen says he enjoys the competitive aspect of the game the most and being able to go one-on-one with some of the best athletes in the country and beating them. Coming into the program in his first year, he was a starting player right away and in the past four years has seen the growth of the football program and Mountie Pride.

“It has been incredible to already win two championships in my time here and be part of a team that took this football program to a level it hasn’t seen since the 90s.”

Two Atlantic University Sport Championships, two national semi-finals, and one East-West Bowl have contributed to a very solid athletic career at Mount Allison for Goguen. He was also recently named Athlete of the Week for his week one performance against StFX, which was deemed one of the best games of his career.

“We dominated the line of scrimmage for the majority of the game and I believe that the offensive line played a great game as one unit,” he says. “I think I played physically and with great intensity.”

Goguen plans to pursue law school after graduation.

“I believe the many different skills I have developed from the variety of classes I have taken in Commerce has prepared me well for law school,” he says.
