Mount Allison will celebrate Pride with a week of activities and events organized by the Mount Allison Students’ Union (MASU). 

Pride is an opportunity to celebrate the diversity, strength, and contributions of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, while recognizing the ongoing work to foster inclusion, equity, and belonging. Pride Week is also a reminder of the importance of creating spaces where everyone feels seen, respected, and supported. 

Pride Week activities at Mount Allison will bring students and the wider Tantramar community together to celebrate and learn. 

"Pride Week is tradition at Mount Allison and an opportunity each year to come together in celebration and recognition of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community,” says President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Ian Sutherland. “It is a chance to celebrate with our campus and wider Tantramar community, strengthen our connections with one another, and reflect on the importance of continuing to build a community where everyone is welcome and belongs.” 

Will Stott, MASU Vice-President of External Affairs, and Elena Valliquette, MASU Vice-President of Student Life, have organized a week of events and activities for the University and the wider Tantramar community to take part in now that students are back on campus. 

"It is important to celebrate Pride Week in September because it helps foster a welcoming and inclusive environment at the beginning of the school year when our new students are arriving,” says Stott. "These events help set the tone for the year to come. The events throughout the week are meant to be inclusive for all and to exist without barriers to participation for our students.” 

A series of Pride events will take place starting with the Flag Raising on Monday, Sept. 21 at 4:30 p.m. at the University flagpoles beside the Owens Art Gallery. Following this, the Pride Parade will proceed along York Street and Main Street to the Tantramar municipal office, where the wider community’s flag will be raised. 

The two flag raisings reflect the support between Mount Allison and the wider Tantramar community and a shared commitment to creating a welcoming community where everyone feels they belong.

Monday, Sept. 21 

Pride Flag Raising 
4:30 p.m. | Outside the Owens Art Gallery
Join MASU for remarks as the Progressive Pride flag is raised at the University flagpoles beside the Owens Art Gallery. 

Pride Parade 
5–6:30 p.m. 
Following the flag raising at Mount Allison, the parade will proceed along York Street and Main Street to the Tantramar municipal office, where the wider community’s flag will be raised. 

Tuesday, Sept. 22 

Queer Academic Panel 
6:30–8:30 p.m. | Windsor Grand Room 
Hear from Dr. Nona Robinson, Dr. Ian Sutherland, and Dr. Hahn as they share perspectives and insights through a queer academic lens. 
 
Wednesday, Sept. 23 

Pride Trivia & Rainbow Cookie Decorating 
6–8 p.m. | The Pond 
Test your knowledge and get creative with rainbow cookie decorating at the Pond.  

Thursday, Sept. 24 

Clothes Swap 
1–3 p.m. | The Chapel
Bring along clothes and find something new-to-you at the community clothing swap. 

Movie in the Park 
8:30 p.m. | Bill Johnston Park 
Gather for an outdoor movie in the park, weather permitting; movie to be announced.

Pride Night 19+
