Mount Allison to welcome Tom Rand, Feb. 24

Green entrepreneur and author part of the Ron Joyce Centre Presents Speaker Series

TomRand_RonJoycePresentsSACKVILLE, NB — Mount Allison University will welcome Tom Rand, Managing Partner with ArcTern Ventures to campus to present a public lecture based on his forthcoming book, Climate Capitalism: Economic Solutions for a Planet in Peril, on Monday, February 24, 2020 at 7 p.m. The talk, part of Mount Allison’s Ron Joyce Centre Presents Speakers Series, will take place in Crabtree Auditorium, Crabtree Building, 49A York Street and is open to the public.

“Tom Rand is known for his work and scholarship in clean technology and climate change advocacy,” says Dr. Nauman Farooqi, Mount Allison’s Dean of Business and Social Sciences. “We are delighted to welcome him to campus as this year’s Ron Joyce Centre Presents Speaker and learn more about his endeavours around green economies and cleantech companies.”

Tom Rand is a leader in promotion of a low-carbon economy. A green entrepreneur, investor, advisor, public speaker, and author, Rand developed Planet Traveler, North America’s lowest-carbon hotel in downtown Toronto and is a managing partner with ArcTern Ventures, which invests in early stage cleantech startups. Rand is also the author of Kick the Fossil Fuel Habit (2010), Waking the Frog: Solutions to our Climate Paralysis (2014), and Climate Capitalism: Economic Solutions for a Planet in Peril (forthcoming in 2020).

In addition to his public talk, Rand will also be meeting with Mount Allison students and faculty members during his time on campus.

The Ron Joyce Centre Presents Speakers series was established in 2012 through Mount Allison’s Ron Joyce Centre for Business Studies and aims to bring nationally and internationally renowned speakers to campus each year to address important issues impacting the world of business.
