The following message was shared with Mount Allison students, faculty, and staff on March 22, 2021, 12 p.m.

The University has been informed by New Brunswick Public Health of a positive case of COVID-19 in our campus community.

The individual is living off campus; however, there have been some potential exposures on campus. The person who tested positive and all identified close contacts are currently self-isolating.

Public Health is also advising of potential exposure to COVID-19 at the following locations. Anyone who was at these locations at the noted times should self-monitor for symptoms, but is not required to self-isolate:

• Thornton House — Friday, March 19 from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
• Fitness Centre — Friday, March 19 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Any other relevant Public Health exposure notifications will be shared with the community as they are received.

Public Health is in the process of conducting contact tracing. Those who have been in close contact with the individual will be contacted directly by Public Health and advised of whether they must self-isolate.

• The University is providing information as requested by Public Health, to assist with the contact tracing process.
• All community members are advised to answer your phone if you receive a ‘no caller ID’ call. Public Health offices do not identify their phone numbers.
• If you are not contacted by the Public Health authorities directly in the coming days, you do not need to take any additional precautions.

We know this news will be upsetting for many of you, but we urge you to continue to be compassionate, caring, and supportive of one another. We wish the individual who is ill a quick and full recovery.

We also remind all members of the Mount Allison community to remain vigilant in terms of your own health and wellness. This means properly self-isolating when required, wearing masks while on campus and in all public spaces, practising physical distancing, and regular hand-washing. If you are experiencing symptoms, get tested, and download the COVID-Alert App to be notified of any potential exposures.
