Aug. 25 COVID-19 update from Mount Allison
On Aug. 25, 2020 the University was informed by New Brunswick Public Health of the first positive case for COVID-19 in our campus community. At this point there are no other confirmed cases related to Mount Allison.
This news, while not unexpected due the widespread impact of COVID-19, hits close to home for all community members.
The case is travel-related and the individual has been in self-isolation since their arrival in New Brunswick, and will continue to self-isolate. Public Health has advised the University that they believe that this case poses a low risk to the campus community.
Based on information provided by Public Health, Mount Allison can also advise of the following:
· Public Health officials are completing a thorough interview with the individual in order to determine who was in contact with them.
· The University is providing information as requested by Public Health, to assist with the contact tracing process.
· If you are not contacted by the public health authorities directly, you do not need to take any additional precautions.
All members the Mount Allison community are encouraged to continue to be mindful of the benefits of continued vigilance in terms of our own health and wellness. This means wearing masks while on campus, practicing physical distancing, and regular hand-washing.
Please also continue to monitor official Mount Allison communication channels such as the website mta.ca/fall2020, University e-mail messages, and institutional social media platforms for further updates. Everyone has had significant changes in their lives over the past few months, from completing an academic term remotely, social distancing, self-isolating and working from home to those who are still completing essential tasks on campus. This is an extraordinarily challenging time for our students, faculty, staff, managers and our families. It is greatly appreciated how Allisonians have continued to look out for each other.
