Position description
The Pierre Lassonde School of Fine Arts at Mount Allison University invites applications to its 2025 AND 2026 Artist-in-Residence program. This annual non-recurring residency will support research, development, and creation of a project proposed by a successful professional artist. Artists who are engaged in visual arts, digital arts, performance, social and community-based artistic practices are invited to apply. To increase the degree of diversity within the Mount Allison community, we particularly encourage applications from artists who self-identify as Indigenous to Turtle Island and/or as racialized peoples, persons with disabilities, persons of all sexual and gender identities, and all equity-deserving individuals.
The selected artist will develop a project in the Purdy Crawford Centre for the Arts on the Mount Allison University campus over the residency period. Working in the context of an undergraduate Fine Arts program, the Artist-in-Residence will engage with students, faculty, and the greater university community as they develop their research.
The Pierre Lassonde Artist-in-Residence will be appointed in the School of Fine Arts for a six-month period, from January to June, and will be supported with suitable office space, shared workspace, and administrative support. The Artist-in-Residence will coordinate with the Head of the School of Fine Arts to engage students and faculty in their residency project.
This Residency offers:
- $32,000 salary (over the six-month period)
- Student Internship account ($2,000) to employ student assistants
- Research, Travel and Entertainment account ($1,100) for expenses
- Use of shared studio facilities (wood and metal sculpture studios, print studio, and digital lab all in the Purdy Crawford Centre for the Arts, and access to other campus facilities)
The Artist-in-Residence will:
- Work primarily on campus to develop their proposed project
- Employ Student Intern(s) to assist in the development of their project
- Present public talks, exhibitions, or equivalent events, and participate in departmental talks or activities during the winter academic semester
- Be available to meet with students (individually or coordinated with classes)
Mount Allison is a highly respected small undergraduate institution. With 14 full and part-time faculty and technical staff, and approximately 130 students, the Pierre Lassonde School of Fine Arts offers a BFA and BA with majors and minors in studio art (courses in drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, open media, and sculpture), with BA majors and minors in Art History, and a minor in Museum and Curatorial Studies. The Pierre Lassonde School is located in the Purdy Crawford Centre for the Arts, a purpose-built facility on the Mount Allison campus. The Owens Art Gallery is an important support to the School on campus, with a program of contemporary and historical exhibitions and visiting artists’ presentations.
Artist-in-Residence applications should include:
- Please indicate which year (i.e., 2025 or 2026) you are applying for. Alternatively, you may indicate candidacy for either year if you have no preference.
- A project proposal for the residency
- A curriculum vitae
- Documentation of relevant recent work (maximum of 20 images, or 5 links to audio and video works that are no longer than 3 minutes each)
- Names and contact information of two references
- All submitted as a single PDF
