The Visual & Material Culture Studies Program welcomes applications to teach VMCS 1991 – Bon Appétit - Introduction to Food Culture (3 credit hours, 14 weeks) online asynchronously in Summer 2026 (May to August) to up to 100 students.
The VMCS Program at Mount Allison University champions experiential learning in the context of fomenting global citizens with real-world experience and applications for their studies. This introductory course lays the foundations for VMCS’s Food Culture Studies concentration. Key themes include food nostalgia, food media, sense studies, family recipes, recipe books, storytelling through food, menu design, food marketing and branding, among other topics. With examples of cuisines from around the world, this course allows students to explore the diverse experiences of food culture through both traditional and contemporary food spaces. The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in a related field and have prior university teaching experience.
Salary will be calculated on a per-student basis, and an additional course creation fee to facilitate setting up and developing materials for the class.
