Position description

The Music Department at Mount Allison University invites applications for the position of director of the Mount Allison Chamber Orchestra (MUSC 1629–4629) OR of the Mount Allison Jazz Ensemble (MUSC 1649-4649). This is a stipendiary (part-time) appointment.

Preference will be given to applicants with degrees and/or diplomas in conducting and an established record of successful orchestral and/or jazz direction at the university and professional levels.

Responsibilities include directing one weekly rehearsal of 2.5 hours, evaluating student participation, and preparing up to two public concerts each term. The Mount Allison Chamber Orchestra is an ensemble of approximately 30 members, consisting of both Mount Allison students and members of the Sackville community. The Mount Allison Jazz Ensemble is an ensemble of open instrumentation of approximately 15 members.

Applicants should indicate which ensemble they feel qualified to direct. The ensembles meet both Fall and Winter terms, from September 2024 to April 2025. Rehearsals will be held on the campus of Mount Allison University, normally on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. (Jazz Ensemble) and Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. (Chamber Orchestra).
