A hybrid species of white willow (Salix alba var \'Caerulea\') was used in Britain for the production of cricket bats. White willow is ideal for the production of items that require a light, durable and splinter-free wood.

Uses

A powder extract from the bark, called salicin, is used to cure aches and pains as well as reduce fever. Like modern aspirin, it is a chemical derivative of salicylic acid.
