The recipient of a Bell Family Achievement Award, one of the University’s most prestigious entrance awards, Hanna Longard says the campus and Sackville communities are welcoming and encouraging.

“I stood on the campus and could see myself being happy here,” says the first-year science student. “And it feels like the small town of Sackville is hugging you and encouraging you each step of the way with their friendly farmers’ market, cafés, the beautiful natural surroundings, and general sense of welcoming.”

Longard hails from Mahone Bay, NS and came to Mount Allison with a myriad of interests and activities.

Longard is involved in many aspects of her community including Free the Children and her residence’s intramural soccer team. She is also a competitive cross-country skier, currently in her fifth season with the Nova Scotia Cross Country Ski team. Longard competed at the 2015 Canada Winter Games in skiing.

Longard completed the International Baccalaureate (IB) program at her high school, Parkview Education Centre, and served on the Students Council for two years. She was involved in a number of activities, including volunteering as external director in the organization of the Atlantic Coast Conference celebrating the IB at the school.

“It was entirely student led with university representatives and student participants from all across Atlantic Canada.”
